Fractional CMO services

A fractional CMO who owns the plan and the results

Senior marketing leadership for a monthly fee, not a full-time salary. I set the strategy, run or direct the execution, manage vendors and report on the numbers your business actually cares about: leads, clients and the cost of winning each one.

What a fractional CMO is (and isn't)

A fractional chief marketing officer is a senior marketing executive who works with your company part-time. You get the judgment, the leadership and the accountability of a CMO without hiring one full-time.

It is not an agency that runs one channel, a consultant who delivers a report and leaves, or a freelancer waiting for instructions. A fractional CMO decides what to do, makes sure it gets done and answers for the result.

For service businesses with 10 to 200 people, it is often the right model. You need senior thinking, but probably not 40 hours a week of it. And the cost of a full-time CMO, between salary, benefits and the time it takes to hire one, rarely makes sense until marketing is already a large, proven machine.

Signs your business needs a fractional CMO

  • You invest in marketing every month, but nobody can tell you what a new client costs.
  • New business depends on referrals or on the founder's network, so revenue swings from month to month.
  • You have an agency, a freelancer or a junior marketer, and nobody gives them direction.
  • Your website gets visits, but very few become conversations.
  • You are launching a new service, a new location or entering the US or Latin American market.
  • The founder or the sales director is still acting as head of marketing, in the time left over.

If two or more sound familiar, you are leaving growth on the table.

What I do as your fractional CMO

Diagnosis and strategy

I start by understanding the business: who your best clients are, why they buy, what a client is worth and how they find you today. Then I review your positioning, website, channels, data and sales follow-up. The output is a clear plan: priorities, budget by channel, targets and the first 90 days.

Positioning and messaging

Most service businesses describe what they do. Clients buy why it matters to them. I sharpen your positioning and messaging so the website, ads, proposals and sales conversations all say the same, more convincing, thing.

Channels and execution

I lead and often personally execute the channels in the plan:

  • SEO and AI search visibility (GEO), so buyers find you on Google and in the answers of AI assistants.
  • Paid media on Google, Meta and LinkedIn, with landing pages built for each intent.
  • Content and inbound, answering the questions your buyers ask before they hire.
  • Email marketing and nurturing for long decision cycles and repeat business.
  • Conversion rate optimization: forms, calls to action and booking or enrollment flows.

When the work needs more hands, I bring in designers, developers or media buyers I trust, and I manage them. You get one accountable person.

Measurement and reporting

I set up or fix the tracking (Google Analytics, Tag Manager, HubSpot or your CRM) so every lead has a source. You get a monthly report that answers three questions: how many qualified leads, how many clients and what each one cost. Plus what we will do differently next month.

Team and vendor leadership

If you have people, I make them better. If you have agencies, I make them accountable. I have trained more than 2,000 professionals in 25+ workshops and taught marketing at university level, so building capability in your team is part of the job.

How an engagement works

  1. Discovery call (30 minutes, free). We talk about your business, your goals and what you have tried. If I'm not the right fit, I'll say so.
  2. Diagnosis. A focused review of your marketing and sales funnel, delivered as a prioritized plan with targets. It's valuable on its own, even if we stop there.
  3. Fractional CMO retainer. A fixed monthly fee for an agreed scope: strategy, execution, reporting and a weekly working session.
  4. Review every quarter. We look at the numbers, adjust the plan and decide whether to scale, change channels or reduce scope.

Prefer a defined project? I also lead launches, website rebuilds and SEO programs with a clear start and end.

What clients get out of it

The Panama Jazz Festival didn't need more posts. It needed a plan that connected ads, email, the online store and content around one goal: selling tickets earlier and to more people. The result was 48% more ticket revenue than the year before, three of five concerts sold out and a database that grew from 700 to more than 5,000 contacts.

Sí Seguros had a strong reputation and no digital presence. With a clear plan built on two channels, Instagram for trust and Google Ads for intent, it went from zero to 80 qualified leads per month from the first month.

Different industries, same approach: diagnose, prioritize, execute with discipline and measure what matters.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does a fractional CMO do?

A fractional CMO leads your marketing as a part-time executive. That includes diagnosing what is and isn't working, setting strategy and budget, choosing channels and vendors, directing or doing the execution, building the measurement and reporting to leadership. The difference from a consultant is ownership: a fractional CMO is accountable for results, not just recommendations.

How much does a fractional CMO cost?

It depends on scope: how many channels are involved, how much hands-on execution you need and whether there is a team to lead. I work with a fixed monthly fee agreed after the diagnosis, so there are no hourly surprises. In every case it costs a fraction of a full-time CMO's salary and benefits.

When should a company hire a fractional CMO?

Common moments are when growth stalls even though you invest in marketing; when you depend on referrals and want a predictable channel; when you are launching a new service or entering a new market; when you have a junior team or several agencies that need direction; or when the founder is still the de facto head of marketing and it's holding the business back.

Fractional CMO vs. marketing agency: what's the difference?

An agency executes tactics in its specialty, usually ads, SEO or social, and reports on its own work. A fractional CMO sits on your side of the table: decides what should be done in the first place, chooses and manages agencies or freelancers, and answers for the overall result. Many of my clients keep their agency; it simply works better with clear direction.

How many hours a week does a fractional CMO work?

It varies by stage. The first weeks of diagnosis and setup are more intensive. After that, a typical engagement includes a weekly working session with you, plus the strategy, execution and reporting time agreed in the scope. What matters is that the plan moves forward every week.
